Decaneas Archive evolved from a high end traditional black and white photo lab. The 1990’s ushered in new digital imaging technology, and by the turn of the millennium, traditional black and white silver imaging had been largely replaced by digital imaging.
Our digital imaging services began with research on how to scan large and fragile glass plate negatives that were in dire need of restoration and preservation. The delivery of these services were directed primarily to historic photographic collections which, up to this time, viewed their collections as important, but expensive overhead.
Our expertise in the sale and licensing of fine art photography offered us a perspective to help institutions identify images in their collections that could be sold in a fine art gallery environment. All of the reproduction images we sell are archival pigment or silver gelatin prints and are accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
